The Imagination Lab Music Production Beginner course will cover the foundations of all the facets you’ll need for creating, mixing and mastering your own music track/song. One of the core projects you will complete during the course is the creation a fully mixed and mastered original song.

In addition to growing a solid vocabulary and thorough understanding of all the concepts and terms involved, you will develop a working knowledge of both Ableton and Protools music production software. Both Ableton and Protools offer free versions which you can use for the course. Unfortunately, the Ableton free trial is limited to 90 days so students who wish to use Ableton beyond 90 days will need to upgrade to a paid subscription. The Protools free version has no time limit. These software packages are industry standard, and the course will also provide you with all the tools you need to discover whether you enjoy sound production as a potential career.

In addition to attaining fluency in both Ableton and Protools software, you will become proficient in the following skills and concepts:
Song structure, midi chords and melodies, drum programming, live sound recording, filters, EQ, compression, panning, levels, mastering plugins, EBU R 128 protocol, mastering signal chains, basics of genre differences among many more.

Keira McKenna is a qualified sound engineer, an engaging guitar teacher and an all round passionate creative. She studied at SAE Institute and has continued to gain experience in the audio industry through live sound, audio post production and music production. Keira strongly believes in utilising the power of audio technology to advance one’s inner creative. She understands that the technical aspects of recording, mixing and producing can often be seen as obstacles for the creative mind but when utilised correctly, these elements can significantly help nurture the innovative process. Keira’s aim is to help individuals approach music technology from a new perspective that encourages experimentation and cultivates an abundance of new creative ideas.
